Sanzio Raphael - Renaissance artist: Unlike other famous artists of his time such as Leonardo and Michelangelo, Raphael's style was learned from his teachers. He grasped what what taught him and expressed the styles of his educators in his paintings, and built upon them. His style continually evolved, reflecting his own genius while projecting that of each new educator. During his brief life of 37 years Raphael established his legacy as one of the greatest masters of the Italian High Renaissance.
From 1514 until his death in 1520, Raphael, as an architect, also directed the construction of St. Peter's Church in Rome.
