Rafael - one of the greatest artists of the Renaissance period
Rafael - master artist and architect of the Renaissance: Unlike other famous artists of his era such as Leonardo and Michelangelo, Rafael's style was learned from his teachers. He grasped what what taught him and reflected the styles of his educators in his paintings. Rafael's style continually changed, reflecting his own genius while projecting that of each new educator. During his brief life of only 37 years, Rafael established his legacy as one of the greatest artists of the Italian High Renaissance.
From 1514 until his death in 1520, Rafael, also an architect, directed the construction of St. Peter's Church in the city of Rome.
